Pergola FAQs
Do you build louvered pergolas?
No. We don’t build aluminum louvered pergolas. If adjustable shade is what you’re after, we’ll show you options we do build: a wood or aluminum pergola with tighter slat spacing for more shade, or a Trex Pergola with a retractable or ShadeFlex canopy you can open and close.
Cedar or aluminum: which pergola is better in Texas?
Both work well here. Cedar and wood pergolas give a warm, natural look and can be stained to match your home, but they need periodic re-sealing. Aluminum pergolas won’t rot or warp and need very little upkeep, which makes them a good fit for pool areas and modern homes.
Can you add a pergola to my existing deck or patio?
Often, yes. We check the existing deck framing or patio slab first, then design the post layout and footings so the pergola is supported properly. If the existing structure isn’t suitable, we’ll tell you and show you a freestanding option.
Do I need a permit for a pergola?
It depends on your city, the size of the pergola and whether it attaches to the house, and many HOAs also want to approve the design. We check the requirements for your address and handle the permit and HOA paperwork when it’s needed.
How much shade does a pergola provide?
An open pergola gives partial, filtered shade. You get more shade with tighter rafter and slat spacing, slats oriented against the afternoon sun, or a canopy. We’ll design the spacing around where the sun hits your space.
