The Short Answer
Our recent Trex and composite deck projects in the Austin area typically ran $10,100–$28,700. That’s a typical Sagamore project total from recent Austin-area jobs (2024–2026), not a quote. Your price depends on the size, height and features of your deck, and every project gets a free written estimate.
| Project | Typical Sagamore project total |
|---|---|
| Trex or composite deck (new) | $10,100–$28,700 |
| Wood deck, deck repair | Priced from a written estimate |
| Pergolas and patio covers | Priced from a written estimate |
Some decks come in below or above that range. A small, low deck with simple stairs sits at the low end. A large, raised or multi-level deck with long stair runs and upgraded railing pushes a project toward the top or past it. We don’t publish ranges for wood decks, deck repair, pergolas or patio covers yet, because those jobs vary too much to give you an honest number without seeing them.
Sagamore Fence & Deck builds Trex and composite decks, railings and pergolas across Austin and Central Texas from our base at 6550 FM 1105 in Georgetown. Our promise is simple: Built Right. Priced Fair. Planned Well. Trusted.

What Drives the Cost of a Deck in Austin
- Size and shape. More square footage means more framing, footings and decking. Angles, curves and multiple levels add labor.
- Height off the ground. A raised deck needs taller posts, more bracing, railing all the way around and usually longer stairs.
- Stairs. Each stair run adds framing, treads, risers and railing.
- Railings. Composite, black metal and cable railing all cost different amounts. See railings and handrails.
- Decking line and color. Composite boards come in several product lines and finishes, and higher lines cost more.
- Old deck removal. Tearing out and hauling off an old deck is part of many replacement jobs.
- Site conditions. Slope, rock, trees and tight access to the backyard affect footings and labor.
- Permits and HOA approval. Many decks need a city building permit, and many HOAs review deck plans. We check the rules for your address and handle the permit when one is needed.
- Shade add-ons. A pergola or covered patio over the deck adds to the total. Covered structures with a solid roof usually cost more than an open pergola because of the roof and the framing it needs. See our pergolas page.
Composite vs. Wood in Texas Heat
Composite and Trex decks are built for low upkeep. They resist rot and insects, don’t need staining, and keep their color longer in the Texas sun. Like any deck surface, composite can get hot in direct afternoon sun, and lighter colors and shade help. See our Trex decks and composite decking pages.
Wood decks usually cost less up front and have a natural look, but sun, heat and humidity are hard on wood. Plan on regular cleaning and stain or sealer to keep it from drying out, cracking and graying. See our deck installation and repair page.

Repair or Rebuild?
If the frame is solid, a deck can often be fixed by replacing damaged boards, stairs or railing. If posts, beams or joists are rotted, the footings have moved, or the deck feels soft or bouncy, rebuilding is usually the safer and better-value choice.
We inspect the frame before we recommend anything, and we’ll tell you honestly whether a repair will hold up.

When Is the Best Time to Build a Deck in Austin?
Spring is our busiest season for decks. Central Texas winters are mild enough to build on most days, so fall and winter are a good time to design, get HOA approval and permits, and have your deck ready for spring. Read more in winter deck installation myths and planning a deck for early spring.

Deck Cost FAQs
How much does a deck cost in Austin?
Our recent Trex and composite deck projects in the Austin area typically ran $10,100–$28,700, based on Sagamore jobs from 2024–2026. That’s a typical range, not a quote. Size, height, stairs, railing and demo make the biggest difference, and every project gets a free written estimate.
How much does a Trex or composite deck cost?
Our recent Trex and composite deck projects typically ran $10,100–$28,700. A small, low deck sits at the low end. Large, raised or multi-level decks with long stairs and upgraded railing cost more.
Do you price decks by the square foot?
No. We price each deck as a whole job, because height, stairs, railing, demo and site conditions change the cost in ways a per-square-foot number doesn’t capture. Your free written estimate gives you one project total.
Is composite decking worth it in Texas heat?
For many homeowners, yes. Composite resists rot and insects, doesn’t need staining and holds its color longer in the sun, so you spend less time on upkeep. Wood usually costs less up front but needs regular stain or sealer in Central Texas.
Does composite decking get hot?
Any deck surface in direct afternoon sun gets warm, and composite is no exception. Lighter colors, shade trees, a pergola or a covered area help keep it comfortable.
Do I need a permit to build a deck?
Often, yes. Many decks need a city building permit, depending on the city, the height of the deck and whether it attaches to the house, and many HOAs review deck plans too. We check the rules for your address and handle the permit when one is needed.
Should I repair or rebuild my deck?
If the frame is solid, replacing damaged boards, stairs or railing may be enough. If posts, beams or joists are rotted or the deck feels soft or bouncy, rebuilding is usually the safer choice. We inspect the frame before we recommend anything.
How much does it cost to add a pergola or patio cover?
We price pergolas and patio covers from a written estimate because size, materials, roof type and engineering vary so much. A covered patio with a solid roof usually costs more than an open pergola.
Do you offer financing for decks?
Financing is available through Wisetack, subject to credit approval. Rates and terms depend on your credit, and you can prequalify when you get your estimate.
What warranty comes with a new deck?
Every project comes with our 1-year workmanship warranty, which starts at substantial completion. Materials carry the manufacturer’s warranty, and when the manufacturer confirms a material is defective and covered, we provide the labor to replace it at no charge to the original purchaser, to the extent that warranty requires. The full terms, including what isn’t covered, are in your written agreement.
